The Burleson High School Elk Strutters were established in 1979. The Strutters evolved from the existing dance team, the Bandettes- which performed from 1970- 1979 under the direction of Jan Paxston. The Bandettes marched as the front line of the military style marching band for halftime shows and UIL marching competitions. In the spring of 1979 the new director Susie Herren was named. The Elk Bandettes became the Elk Strutters and would no longer be a part of the music department.
The Strutters have been featured performers over the last 40 years for the Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, and the Dallas Stars. The Strutters have also visited many different states! New Orleans, Orlando, New York city, Tennessee, Washington DC to perform at the “Black Tie & Boots Inaugural Gala, and Los Angeles to name a few! The Strutters also performed for Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York at TCU in 2003!
The Strutters have competed in local, state and national competitions and have consistently won Sweepstakes, Super Sweepstakes, and Judges Awards for Choreography, Precision, Showmanship, and Technique as well as have achieved Best in Class Ratings for officer and team routines in contest.
